Daddy's Home!

Daddy took a rare business trip and we were on our own for 5 sleeps. (That's how we count days in this house. How many times do I have to go to bed until the event I'm looking forward to?) When he returned I decided we would surprise him inside the airport instead of just picking him up in the car. The kids missed their Daddy :)

Camping!

Hunter's been begging to go camping. We haven't been since last March. We finally got a group together and made it happen. Heath and Hunter went out Friday and did boy stuff and camped with some others. Saturday Peyton and I and the rest of the families with kids joined everyone. Saturday night we had a total of 14 adults and 5 children camping. We had perfect weather and the campground was pretty empty so the kids were able to ride freely on their bikes. These kids are just getting so big. They entertain themselves so easily when they're together and they just love the camping experience.

We spent a good part of Saturday afternoon at the playground.

They climbed trees.

We cooked hotdogs for the kids over the campfire. Then we had homemade Gumbo and Chili for the adults.

The next morning we made pancakes and bacon for everyone.

We hit the playground one last time in our jammies while the boys packed everything up.

(Peyton is missing because she didn't actually sleep at the campsite Saturday night. I'm not quite ready for that. :)

Hunter is already ready to go again :)

It's brag on Hunter time....

I have to brag about Hunter for a bit so beware. This morning he had gotten up and was watching TV while Heath and I were still laying in bed. Peyton was awake in her crib and starting to holler to get out. Hunter came into our room and asked if he could go to Peyton's room so I said yes. We watched the video monitor to see what would happen. Hunter turned the light on and the sound machine off and then went over to say hi to Peyton. She asked him to get into her bed so he happily climbed in. Then he read books to her. It was one of the sweetest moments I've seen between the two of them. Completely melted my heart.

Friday was parent/teacher conference day at school. It's a time for the teacher to report to the parents on how they're doing in school now that we've reached the halfway point. They also recommend whether your child is ready for Kindergarten. Heath and I were both able to go and meet with his teacher (who I just LOVE). She had nothing, but amazing things to say about Hunter. She said he's a very spirited child who is full of joy. He loves his friends, plays with everyone and is well liked by everyone. He respects authority. He is a LEADER. He aced all of the assessment tests and is definitely ready for 'the big school'. She told us we were doing an amazing job in raising him and said she was so thankful to be able to teach him and have him in her class. And yes, I needed a tissue after all of that. If that isn't validation of what we're trying to do as parents I don't know what is. Is was just so nice to hear.

Finally blogging about 2012! Well, I guess this is technically the last day of 2011, but it ended ringing in 2012. Our awesome neighbors had a party. Marcie is an amazing party thrower. Her food and displays are always so impressive.

Friends

Some of our best friends moved away last summer. Thankfully they still have family here so they have to visit. We were thankful to get our three families together while they were here and catch up. The kids didn't skip a beat. They had a great time together.

For some reason, Christmas get togethers with this group always involve costumes!

TWO WHEELS!

Hunter spent the night at Grandma's with his two older cousins a couple days before Christmas. When we saw him the next day he came over and said he had something to show us. He hopped on this bike (with no training wheels) and got a little push from Ashton and off he went.....riding a bike on two wheels! He hasn't looked back. He's only been doing it a couple weeks and has no fear.

Our kids had SIX Christmases this year. That's SIX places where they received gifts over the span of four days. I decided that I was going to enjoy Christmas this year without the stress of constantly taking pictures. I ended up taking pictures at only two of the six events. And even then not very many....as you'll see. (We do have video though.) So, here's our house on Christmas morning.

Peyton was very into ripping the wrapping paper off this year. She got to the point where she didn't even care what was in the box. She just wanted to take the paper off.

We hid the kids' stockings this year. Hunter found them in the bath tub.

We're on our FOURTH day of Christmas in a row today. My kids are so spoiled!

I had to wait until after Christmas to share these pics since they were a top secret project to use as Christmas gifts. We wanted to get pictures of the 4 grandkids for Heath's side of the family. We went out to his sister's house which was the perfect backdrop right on the water. And she had the perfect bench for them to sit on.

This is the one we gave most everyone. I just love it!

Today is our whirlwind day of Christmas at home, breakfast with the in-laws, 2 hour drive to my family for presents and dinner with them. We're so thankful to be close enough to be able to spend a little bit of Christmas with everyone. Enjoy your families today!

2011 Decorations

I try to make a couple things to add to my decor each Christmas. This year I had been planning to make a door 'wreath'. I found the frame at a garage sale back in October for $2. It was perfect for my idea (stolen from Pinterest). Then on Thanksgiving I got the ribbon and ornaments during Micheal's black Friday sale. I'm so happy with how it turned out!

I don't have too many surfaces to decorate in my house so this is the majority of it. Peyton's stocking still hasn't been embroidered. I did get a quote this year and they wanted $17 to put her name on it. No thanks.

I glittered these trees this year. First time glittering anything. Kinda messy and takes way more glitter than I expected. Love them though.

I found this free printable and make an 8x10 then took an old black frame and spray painted it. Then distressed it with some sand paper.

I love this tiny nativity set. They are so cute!

I had some fun with my tree, homemade filters, and some textures. I see a lot of people do the hearts, but I thought the Mickey Mouse would be so cute if I could get it to work. So fun!

Teacher Gifts and a Gingerbread House

This year we all took part in the gifts we gave Hunter's two wonderful teachers. Hunter made some yummy treats. I made a petal pusher pin. And Heath made a frame. He painted the insert with chalkboard paint so it can be versatile.

I was thankful that Hunter would be building a gingerbread house at school this year. It was not my favorite activity last year....because I am not good at it! The parents were invited to come help so I sent Heath :)

Peyton decided to have a meltdown. She could not get it together. I offered everything I could think of. I was not giving up. I was determined to get the perfect picture. And as you can see Hunter was completely annoyed with her. He was ready to smile and be done and he knew he couldn't get up until she cooperated. By the grace of God Peyton pulled it together and I got what I needed. But this picture was just too funny to not include on the card.

Santa Visit

We took the kids to see Santa. Hunter was fully prepared to ask for a Razor Scooter and a Duck Launcher. The duck launcher took some research. It's something he's seen on TV, I guess. Santa will be bringing them both so he should be a happy boy Christmas morning.

Peyton was not about to go near Santa. She freaked out when Daddy tried to put her on his lap. So, Mommy gets to be in this year's picture.

SPOT: Our Elf on the Shelf

We joined the Elf on the Shelf craze this year. We had Santa deliver our Elf with Christmas pajamas one day soon after Thanksgiving. If you don't know about the Elf on the Shelf the short story is that the elf watches over boys and girls for Santa in the days before Christmas. He flies back to report to Santa every night. Each morning kids will find the elf doing something different or hiding somewhere different. There is one rule: do not touch him or he will lose his power to fly.

The book tells you to name your elf. Hunter named our elf Spot. Yes, Spot. That is clear evidence that we've never owned a pet. He loves trying to find him every morning or waking up to see what he's up to. Peyton even sometimes finds him before Hunter can.

Spot got into the blocks and spelled out two names on the NICE list ;)

Hunter came running to me one morning with tears in his eyes and reported that Peyton TOUCHED THE ELF. He was terrified the elf would lose his power to fly back to the North Pole. I assured him that it would be okay and we would wait until the next morning to see if he was able to fly. Heath came up with the idea that Spot was now sick. We put a letter in the mailbox with some magic powder. Hunter sprinkled it on Spot and the next morning Spot was up to his normal tricks. Crisis averted. Whew.

Christmas Program 2011

This is Hunter's third year participating in the preschool Christmas program. I've known that once he got to VPK that he would have to recite a line in the program. It was hard to believe back then that he'd be old enough to be able to handle the pressure of memorizing the line and reciting it on a stage in front of a bunch of people. He learned his line in no time and perfected it by saying it slow and loud.

"C is for crowds growing larger each day. With more and more people filling the way."

They did awesome!

FSU Weekend - Part 3 of 3

Part 2 ended with us touring the campus. After that we got in the car and planned to go rest at the hotel until it was time to go tailgate. We stopped at Publix and Heath ran in for a few things. During that time Hunter started hysterically crying that his left ear was hurting. Since he'd had some sort of virus in the previous 48 hours I knew this was a legitimate problem. The nearest urgent care was around the corner. It was wall to wall people and Hunter was freaking out. We found another one 5 minutes away with no one waiting so went there. After some drama because Hunter's ears were full of wax (he gets that from his father :) we got an antibiotic script and some numbing drops. We got the meds and made it to the hotel at the exact time we needed to leave. Hunter was a trooper. He never complained again and hung tough all night until about 10:30 as the game was dragging on. He was ready to sleep.

You would think that this series of pictures involved an FSU touchdown, but it did not. There was cartoon race up on the big screen. There were three guys and you had to guess which one would win. We each picked a guy and of course, Hunter's guy won. This is Hunter's reaction to winning. The kid likes to win :)

We went down to the tunnel at halftime. When the players run back onto the field after halftime they'll high five the spectators. We got a good spot and Hunter hung his arm over the fence. He got a high five from our punter, Shaun Powell and our quarterback, EJ Manual. That was pretty cool!

This post will be mostly about the wedding and the couple. Heath's cousin FINALLY got married a few weeks ago. These two dated for EIGHT years! It was a little expected :)

This was a first experience for my kids. They've never been to a wedding before. I put together the perfect outfits for them and they looked precious.

I wore some ridiculously high heels for about 5 minutes :)

FSU Weekend - Part 1 of 3

Last year we took Hunter to his first FSU game. It was homecoming weekend so we went up early and enjoyed the parade the day before. This year we decided to do it again. The morning we were leaving to make it to the parade Hunter threw up. I sent Heath on to Tallahassee and we stayed at Grandma's to let Hunter rest. He never threw up again and took a long nap. We decided to drive over that evening.

The next morning we were able to take Hunter on a campus tour since it was a night game and we wouldn't be tailgating until the afternoon. We started at the Westcott Building and most popular fountain on campus. You're not an FSU student if you've never taken a swim in the Westcott Fountain!

It's possible that he'll be standing here in his cap and gown in 17 years!

We decided to walk a little and ended up walking A LOT and going to lots of different landmarks.

So, I have lots to blog about, BUT I have lots of pictures to edit before I can. So, you get the iphone preview with a promise of more to come :)

This was taken at the rehearsal dinner for Heath's cousin's wedding a few weeks ago.

We took Hunter to an FSU game. It was quite an eventful weekend.

He slept in a 'spaceship bed'.....two chairs smooshed together just the perfect size for him.

And of course, we've been decorating for Christmas....while the kids stand on their heads!

Thanksgiving Feast

Last week Hunter had a Thanksgiving Feast at school. The kids dressed up as pilgrims and indians and sang a few songs for us. It was so cute! Hunter led the prayer before we ate and I'm told he ASKED to be the prayer leader. Love that. Then we all ate a picnic lunch in the classroom. I love seeing little glimpses into what they do at school each day.

Next up: Hunter has a line to memorize for the Christmas Program!

Oh look, it's a family picture! Let me distract you from my lack of blogging :)

This weekend will be the third weekend in a row we've been out of town. I have pictures to share, but can't seem to get past my client pictures and on to mine. This weekend we'll be taking Hunter to an FSU game. It's homecoming so the parade and all the festivities are fun to experience with him. He loved it last year so we're hoping for more of the same this year.

I managed to get myself in a picture recently. In an attempt to grow my hair out a bit (no idea how long this will last) I've been wearing hair accessories. Kinda fun! Peyton and I had matching ones in these pictures. And yes, I made them :)

At two she's already learned how to photo bomb a picture. How can you not laugh looking at that?! She kills me!

Ouchie!

We returned home this evening after being away for 3 days. I was making a mental list of everything I needed to do when I got home plus everything going on this week that I need to prepare for. We weren't home 30 minutes and I watch Hunter trip outside on the porch and go head first into the screen fence that goes around the pool. There were immediate tears and that reaction to fight back because it hurts so bad. I immediately grabbed him and comforted him before assessing the injury. I thought he had hit his face, but then I saw some blood in his hair. There was a little, but deep enough cut to warrant a trip to urgent care. There was a screw sticking out of the pole and that's what cut him. So, off we went. The lists can wait. He was terrified of needing stitches, but I was pretty confident they would just glue it. And glue it they did. He was SO brave and declared afterward that it didn't hurt at all. We were in and out and home in no time. I think the worst part of it will be having to sit out during playground time at school this week! Let's hope the week is a little less exciting :)

Florida Fall

Florida Fall finally arrived last week. We were able to shut off the air, open the windows and doors, and play outside without sweating. Today it's back in the 80s so the air is back on, but I hear it'll be nice again come the weekend.

We put some fallish clothes on and went up to the pumpkin patch one night last week. It's about the best we can do for fall colors this time of year. Everything is still green in Florida! I have more to share, but we'll start with the ones of the kids together. I even managed to get my face in one!

Fruit of the Week

Last week Hunter came home from school with the Fruit of the Week award. Each week the teacher chooses a child in class who has best demonstrated the fruit of the spirit for the week. I was a little bit shocked to find out the fruit of the week was SELF CONTROL. That is definitely a trait we are constantly working on. I'm thrilled to know he's demonstrating it at school. Good job, Hunter!

Wecoming Another to the Family

The women on Heath's side of the family had a bridal lunch for the newest addition to the family. While she's been dating Heath's cousin for EIGHT years they're finally sealing the deal in about a month. We're so excited for their wedding and to have her as a permanent part of the family!

We had lunch at the Gaylord Palms hotel. It's always fun to go there.

I embroidered some of the dish towels she registered for.

Her soon-to-be mother-in-law wrote her a lovely note. There may have been a few tears shed.

I had some cute cookies made as favors. If you're local, they're from Cookie Cutter Creations. Besides being cute, they taste really good!

The Grasshopper

My uncle has quite the riding lawnmower to mow his 6 acres of land. Hunter prefers this over his little truck. This thing goes fast and he loves it.

Phone Dump

Sometimes my phone is the only accessible camera when the kids are doing something cute. I'm thankful for that.

Peyton got a new bike at a garage sale recently. It's the cutest thing. And was a total steal.

I don't even know what was going on here, but they were hanging out underneath my clothes while laying on dirty ones.

Hunter loves caterpillars and Peyton is so entertained by them.

Scored these boots at a sale. Pretty sure we'll have to do a photo shoot with them.

And this. She's always done this. When she learned to crawl this is what she would do to get back to a sitting position. I thought that flexibility would go away, but it hasn't. She's got to be double jointed in her hips. She'll be the perfect little gymnast :)

Two Going on Ten

We went to check out a location last week and I crossed my fingers that I could get some two year pictures of Peyton. It was mid-day, hot, and full sun, but we managed and I love the variety of pictures we got during our walk.

I'm really enjoying Peyton being two. She's very independent, but I like that she wants to help and do it herself so much. Yes, there are meltdowns, but I'm so surprised that I can actually reason with her already. If she melts down over something at home and continues with unnecessary crying I just tell her to go to her room if she's going to cry and she says ok and marches to her room and returns when she's done. It kind of blows my mind. She just understands so much already. Hunter talked pretty late so we were no where near reasoning with him at this age. It just makes me realize she's growing up really fast. I'm so thankful that I've been able to spend these early years at home with my kids. No one can ever take that away from me.

Crayon Art

I've seen this idea all over Pinterest. If you're not on Pinterest you should be. It's awesome! Although, it's just the source of even more do it yourself ideas. Like I need any more!

Here's what you need:

a blank canvas
crayons (number depends on the size of your canvas)
exacto knife (Helps to take off the crayon wrappers. Some people leave them on.)
Your choice of glue
Hair dryer or heat tool

For this project I used a 12x12 canvas and needed 3 boxes of 24 count crayons.

Pick out your crayons. I went with the colors of the rainbow and threw out the whites, grays, and blacks.

Take all the wrappers off....if you want. My 5 year old helped with that.

Glue the crayons onto the canvas. Hot glue doesn't work well because it just melts the crayons. Any other craft glue should work.

Then you just take your hair dryer and melt the crayons. Put the canvas at a slight angle and let it run down. You can maneuver where it goes a little. I would let it dry and then do it again and that helped give it some dimension by building up the wax.

You can hang it however you want. I kinda like it like this.

The Truck

Hunter has a John Deere battery powered truck that lives at Uncle Ronnie's. He likes it, but now that Peyton can participate in the fun he has a lot more fun. He goes fast and she hangs on for dear life, head whipping back, loving every minute of it.

This almost gave me a heart attack. My mom should be glad she wasn't outside at this moment.

And then she got it all to herself....

She needed a little help with the steering part.

Birthday at School

We took brownies to school on Hunter's birthday so that he could celebrate with his friends and teachers. They make birthdays pretty special at school so he was king for the day. He's pretty excited to finally be FIVE.

Beach Birthday Party

The kids' birthdays are about 4 weeks apart so I decided to take advantage of combining their parties while I can get away with it. I normally opt for a 'no work' party which means I let the venue do all the work (like bowling or Gymboree) and I just show up with a cake. But this year a beach party was mentioned to me and I decided to go for it. It was a good bit of work, but it was a nice change to plan some of the little details. It was a fun day filled with family and a few friends.

She can make ANYTHING and they taste great, too.

Peyton Swimming

Peyton has come a long way in the swimming department. Everything has been on her terms...imagine that. Swimming lessons didn't make her afraid of the pool, but she wasn't overly enthusiastic about it right away either. She is now jumping off the step and swimming to us. And at the end of the video you'll see her swimming along the step by herself.

Peyton is starting to show her age. She's quick to melt down when she doesn't get what she wants.... like all two year olds. Case in point: Hunter started gymnastics this week. We went as a family to watch his first class. Yeah right. As soon as Peyton saw Hunter take off his shoes and go sit on the floor waiting for class to start she ripped off her shoes and sprinted to sit by Hunter. She would not be left out. She was LIVID when I removed her from her spot. We ended up sitting in the car while Daddy watched for a while then Mommy got a turn to watch. In the future, one of us will stay home with Peyton. And it's all her fault that there are no pictures from his first gymnastics class!

She had her 2-year check up and she is in the 25th percentile for height and weight. Still a little peanut. So far she's got that gymnast build :) Maybe she'll start gymnastics at age 3 like I did. Right now we're doing Kindermusik and she really likes it.

This has been a long awaited day. We've been counting the sleeps before the first day of school. Hunter could not wait. He's so good about humoring me with pictures. He's a pleaser and he must know how much I love pictures.

Peyton will not be left out. And she was insistent on holding the lunchbox.

I answered the question "Where's Hunter?" a good dozen times today :)

Love this kid.

He found his name and marked himself present when we arrived.

He immediately sat down in his assigned seat and started playing with play dough.

It's going to be a fun year for him.

The neighborhood kids gathered one last time before school starts (tomorrow!) for some summer fun. This blow up slide/pool was pretty amazing. It entertained them for 2 solid hours and they could have gone longer.

Hunter has come to love our 'photo dates' as I call them. While vacationing at the beach we went down to the water one late afternoon. It was very short lived and you'll see why when you get to the last picture, but we had fun for about 15 minutes :)

Next week is finally the start of school for him. We're jumping for joy over that!

I think we have the latest start date for school in the whole country.

Pre-Kindergarten this year. One more year at the little church preschool and next year it's on to the 'big' school. Eeeeek! Mama is happy for another year before that transition.

My boy is growing up.

We met the teachers yesterday. We've heard nothing, but good things and after meeting them I know it's going to be a great year.

He loves to learn.

He loves his friends.

He loves school.

The rain came with very little warning. We ran like the wind, but shelter wasn't close by. And just like that our date was over :)

Back to reality after a great week at the beach...

We're a beach family for sure. I love the beach because it can entertain the kids for hours at a time day after day. We always have activities to do like bocce ball, flying kites, playing frisbee, catching fish and crabs, collecting shells, building sand castles, digging giant holes, and endless hours of boogie boarding.

We had a great week. We had a constant flow of visitors. The kids always had playmates whether it was other kids, cousins, or grandparents.

**Excuse the crappy, pixilated pictures here and there. I took a few pictures with the photo option on the video camera. I had no idea they would be so terrible. Won't be using that ever again.**

Hunter has become quite the boogie boarder this year. It's by far his favorite beach activity. He's gotten to the point where he can catch his own waves.

My nephew and his girlfriend came over one day. They brought their surf boards and I decided to give surfing a try. Unfortunately, there is no photo or video evidence (I can't do everything!), but I got up on my second try! It was fun!

She wasn't about to get to close :)

Today you are TWO. You are the prettiest, spunkiest, funniest, feistiest little girl I know. You are so independent with a mind of your own. You're growing up even faster than Hunter did simply because you want to do everything he does so a lot of milestones are happening much earlier.

You adore your brother. His name is the first word you say when you wake up. If he is not around you are quick to realize and ask, "Where's Hunter?". It's a requirement that you give him a hug and kiss before nap time and bed time. You copy everything he does....hence the growing up so quickly. I'm not sure what you're going to think of him going off to school four days a week.

After the six torturous weeks of swim lessons you have really come to love swimming. You fell into the pool one day after swim lessons were done. You did exactly what you learned and floated on your back. It was such a proud moment for me and confirmed why we make you kids endure those lessons. You are now jumping off the top step and swimming to your target (Mommy or Daddy) and then back to the step.

I'm pretty sure you will be some form of a tom boy. You're a tough girl, that's for sure. You can hold your own in a crowd of boys. You have no interest in baby dolls yet. You do enjoy dressing up and wearing jewelry and would love nothing more than to paint your entire face with makeup. You like to have your toes painted like Mommy.

We had a quick photo shoot before we left for the beach. You love the camera. You are full of personality which is completely evident in these pictures.

You are so precious to us and we are enjoying every minute of watching you grow.

I'm so thankful for our pool. Heath and I both grew up with pools in our backyards so it was a no brainer for us. The kids love it and it's the best non-structured summer activity out there. We invite friends over and it's lunch time/nap time before you know it.

We had a pool day with our friends from Jacksonville. We had so much fun that all four kids took a nap! Hunter doesn't even nap anymore!

Sadly, I've barely used my camera lately. Well, on my kids that is. It's been really busy taking pictures of other people this last week. I've taken a few camera phone pics though.

Our godson, Jack turned three and happened to be visiting us around his birthday. His momma made an awesome dinosaur cake for him.

Heath has been busy turning our front room into my photography studio. First on the list was to put four can lights in. Those are now finished. Next up is painting.

I got attacked by ants during a photo shoot the other night. I guess it's only fair since I stuck my knee right into their home. Ouch. There's at least 75 bites. No one told me this job was dangerous!

Peyton is really loving swimming. I'll have to load some video.

She's now jumping and swimming to us.

While we were over at the beach I had forgotten to pack socks for Hunter. Socks are a requirement for sleeping. We managed to find a pair of mens tube socks and he slept in them every night.

One evening Heath and I went out and had a little photo shoot while location scouting.

Beach Summer

We've spent a good amount of time at the beach this summer. I love it because the kids are occupied all day without having to really plan anything. Both of my kids don't mind the sand and they love the water. Hunter has really gotten into boogie boarding this summer.

This day was spent with Heath's family.

Then we spent a few days with various friends. It's always more fun with playmates!

We still have a month left before school starts so much more beach time to be had!

I knew before we had our family pictures done that I wanted to blow one up big on a canvas.

It came last week and I love it! It's 16x24. The biggest one I've ever had printed. Bigger is always better though.

It has a 2 inch wrap which really makes it stand out on the wall.

For now, this is where it will live in our house.

I'll be spending some time at the beach this week so no more posting for a couple of days.

My Boy

In two months this boy will be FIVE. Hard to believe. I'm kind of thankful he was born past the cut off date for school. That means we have another year before I have to send him off to Kindergarten.

I'm pretty sure his hair glows in the dark. I always envisioned I'd have blonde haired, blue eyes kids and somehow that's exactly what I got!

I would kill for those eyelashes!

I asked him to roll his tongue so he did, but then he stuck his finger in it and called it a hot dog. Where do they learn these things?! I'm sure someone is responsible for teaching him that :)

Oh, and I made the bow tie. So easy and no sewing involved!

I mentioned before that Hunter and I went on a photo date followed by ice cream. I don't get a lot of one on one time with Hunter aside from Peyton's nap time so this was special time together. Hunter enjoyed it more than I expected. He's been saying every day since that he wants another Mommy Date. I guess we better make that a regular occurrence.

Fun with Silhouettes

I took Hunter out the other night for some pictures. I needed one of him to go with our family pictures. I was only able to choose 5 photos from our family shoot and I decided to go with mostly family pictures, but I still needed one of just him. We went up to our neighborhood golf course. I knew that I could end our shoot with some silhouette pictures. There's a hill that's just perfect for them. It was a decent sunset, too! Here's what we got.

Hunter managed to take this one of me. My camera is so big and heavy that I just had to stand still, but he did good!

a sting ray and a crab

One morning at the beach the tide was going out. As it went out it left little shallow pools between the sand bar. It was perfect for the kids to play in. Heath hollered to me to bring him a bucket. He had seen a small sting ray. It was caught in the shallow part and couldn't get back into the big ocean. Before I could get him the bucket he lost sight of it. If you know Heath he doesn't give up easily. He found it again and after half a dozen swipes with the bucket he had caught himself a sting ray.

Another day my niece caught a tiny little crab. One that managed to pinch her and draw a dab of blood even with those tiny little claws.

Because of past hurricanes they've pumped in a lot of sand and it's now more shelly than it used to be.

A couple months ago I won a Facebook contest with Sari Underwood Photography for a free family family photo session. After a couple reschedules because of sick kids we finally made it happen on the third try. This is our first professional photo shoot as a family of four. I should probably do better at that in the future. I love the pictures. I got to pick my 5 favorites so I went with more family shots since that's what we 'need'. This first one will be a big canvas. I can't wait to get it!

I snapped this picture of Peyton holding my hand and realized I have a very similar one of Hunter doing the same back in January.
It's something that could very easily be taken for granted, but I'll enjoy it for as long as it lasts.

Fireworks

Heath loves to buy his own fireworks to do for the Fourth instead of trekking out into the crowds to watch a fancy display. This year half the neighborhood gathered as the dads played with fire. I'm pretty sure they enjoy it the most. Notice the baby gate at the end of the driveway - safety first!

Hunter got to hold a roman candle as it shot off.

We even had PVC holders for the bottle rockets and a blow torch to better light them with.

I tried my hand at some fireworks pictures this year. I read a few tips and went out with my tripod. It would have been much easier at a fancy show somewhere, but I was just photographing our store bought little fireworks.

Sparklers were fun!

And this was the fanciest one we saw all night.

It was fun, but I'd love to try again at a show with lots of big, pretty ones.

Girls Weekend at the Lake

Once a year I get together with college friends and wives of college friends for a weekend. This year we stayed at Kara's lake house just outside of Jacksonville. We had a great time. We ate, gabbed, boated, floated, and went to bed early. We're definitely not as young as we used to be.

These were Kara's rules for the weekend:

There are 5 littles houses that share the dock/boathouse.

The houses are really old, like 1914, but so cozy and quaint.

I skied for the first time in over 10 years!

I think Sarah was giving me the eye roll when I pointed my camera in her direction, but I adore this photo of her little bump. Baby #3 will not be left out!

Kara's dog Chi Chi joined us for the weekend. She was as sweet as she could be.

I needed today. Lately, the kids have been driving me nuts. I'm sure I've been doing too much yelling. I've been feeling stressed about everything that needs to be done. I bring most of it on myself because it doesn't all have to be done RIGHT NOW. But I hate to have a list staring at me. I want to CROSS IT OFF NOW. So, today I took the day off. We headed to Sea World (with friends) despite the guarantee of rain at some point. It was totally overcast so the sun didn't beat on us all day. That makes such a difference! The kids behaved SO well. The crowds were pretty light. We saw 3 shows and rode some kiddy rides. The rain did come, but we were under cover so we waited it out before we headed home. The icing on the cake of a perfect day was that I returned home to a spotless house! That'll put a girl in a good mood :)

The boys love the kiddy coasters. They even got stuck at the top of this one the second time they rode it. They were stuck for a good 10 minutes, but they were brave and handled it just fine.

Peyton was even big enough to ride some kiddy rides. And she loved them!

A Silly Skill Game

Hunter was over at a friend's house last week and the kids wanted to play Operation: A Silly Skill Game. It's from Family Game Night on the Hub. On the show, they use a big version of the Operation guy Sam. The contestants have to use thongs to get out the pieces without touching the edges or his nose buzzes. Then they run on a balance beam, jump hurdles, and go through the tissue box. Here is their version of the fun with things around the house.

SNAKE!!

As my nephew (Aaron) and his girlfriend (Sunnie) were leaving Margie's party we were chatting outside and taking some pictures. Out of nowhere, Sunnie yells SNAKE! Now, pretty much everyone I know would react in the following ways: a) RUN or b) KILL IT. Not Sunnie and Aaron. They ran AFTER it. It was a race for who could GET it. SHE got it. As far as Aaron is concerned this was no surprise. He grew up having snakes as pets. Apparently, these two have a tally going for who can catch the most snakes. I'm pretty sure these two are meant for each other. If I didn't know it before I know it now.

Sorry for the lack of blogging this week. The beginning of the week was filled with photo shoots and then end of the week has been filled with playing nurse to a husband recovery from surgery.

I set up one of my new backdrops. My amazing friend Kim painted this for me. I just love it!

Here are the subject of one of my photo shoots this week. It was HOT out, but they were troopers...jeans and all!

another soccer season complete

Hunter is finished with his third soccer season. This season he dominated as one of the oldest on the field plus he had two seasons of experience under his belt. If he plays next season he'll move up to the 5/6 age group.

These pictures are from the last game. Every morning before a game we would ask Hunter how many goals he wanted to score that day. He always picked a reachable number between 3 and 8 usually. Most games he hit the number or got really close.

This series of pictures was a break away goal that he took down the field.

Friends Forever

We've been friends with two couples since we first met in marriage counseling class just a few months before we all married. By the end of class we all went out for dinner together and in the coming months attended each other's weddings. That was the beginning of a now 8 year friendship. We all started having kids about the same time and were all 3 fortunate to be able to stay home. We had frequent play dates and the kids were able to get to know each other well. It helps that the adults love to be around each other, but these kids love each other even more. In the last couple of years as some have gone back to work and kids have started preschool we don't see each other as much, but these kids don't skip a beat. They have so much fun each time they see each other. I know they'll be friends forever as will their parents.

R Family, we will miss you living so close.

These other four kids will miss their buddy, Zach.

I know we'll see you again soon.

torture lessons are over

It's been a long 6 weeks of lessons everyday, but it's all done and it was all worth it - every penny and every tear.

To graduate from Safe Start you have to swim in winter clothes. These are survival lessons after all. If she were to fall in during the winter fully clothed we know she'd still be able to save herself.

She did great!

And yeah, she still cries at lessons. So turn your sound off if you don't want to hear the poor crying baby. She likes swimming when it's not lesson time so that's a relief!

We packed the car full. All this for four adults.

After we checked out our house and did some grocery shopping we checked out the beach.

Blue water, powdery sand, and completely private.

All the homes in Carillon have names. This was ours, Made in the Shade. Every day they had these two lounge chairs and an umbrella set up on the beach.

If I had a beach house I would hang this in it. I saw this man a couple of times in the late afternoon just sitting with his feet in the water staring out into the ocean.

There were only 4 of us the first night there so we went to a restaurant called Red Bar in Destin. We've been a couple times and it's amazing. If you're ever there you have to go!

This is the menu. They only have five entrees and they're all excellent.

I did this a lot that week....

One night we took the bride-to-be out on the town.

We went parasailing.

The boys played Polish Horseshoes.

It was a fun week. I wanna go back!

Chad & Kristin's Wedding - The Reception

A wedding wouldn't be complete without our AKPsi tradition. In our college business fraternity Piano Man was a song frequently played while we all gathered in a circle, arms around each other. We've managed to relive that memory at many weddings over the years.

We had a girls weekend at the beach last weekend.

We got all dressed up and went out to a nice dinner.

I brought my tripod and made the girls get outside and take some pics before we left.

My girl, Megan is moving far away real soon. So glad we were able to squeeze in a girls weekend before she left. I know this won't be the last one, but it'll definitely be more of a challenge now.

8 Years

Today we celebrate EIGHT years of marriage. It's been an amazing eight years. I couldn't ask for a better man to be sharing it with. I truly believe we have one of the best relationships out there. You are my everything. I can't wait to see what's next! I love you, Heath Powell.

The bride and groom each had one attendant and that person was their sibling.

These boys have been friends since college and I've never seen a more closely knit group. Even though everyone is spread throughout Florida they still manage to see each other several times a year.

So glad I was able to grab this photo before the ceremony.

The bride has become a really good friend of mine and we're so happy Chad chose her.

She comes from a gorgeous family.

Shell Island Boat Day

Like I said, we spent last week in Panama City, more specifically Carillon Beach, Florida.

We made a vacation out of our reason for being there - a wedding.

Next time I want to see blue water and white, sandy beaches I'll be going there.

Who needs the Bahamas when you can stay in Florida?!

I'm a little disappointed with our beaches after this trip.

Our first full day there was Boat Day. We've been looking forward to this day since we planned it.

The groom secured a pontoon boat and a jet ski for the day and our destination was a short ride over to Shell Island. I've heard a lot about this place, but I've never been. It didn't disappoint.

Captain Chad drove us out.

The lovely bride-to-be. Wait until you see her in her wedding dress!

And we anchored the boat here. How pretty is this place!?

We were armed with a batch of Powell Punch. A crowd favorite.
And since so many have asked for the recipe, here you go!

1 Handle of Bacardi Light
1 750ml bottle of Parrot Bay
1 Can of Pineapple Juice (Mango Pineapple if you can find it)
1 Gallon of OJ
2 V8 Splash (Tropical Blend)
Mix it all in a cooler or something big and pour it back into the containers.
Garnish each glass with nutmeg and a pineapple stick if you wish.

Pretty sure this was my first time on a jet ski. They go fast, people.

Some beer pong in open water....awesome.

We did a lot of just hanging out, enjoying each other.
