Road Trip and Hunter's 6 Month Check-up

I decided to brave driving to Jacksonville (2.5 hours) by myself with Hunter last week. Heath was headed to Tampa for a boys weekend so I figured we'd go see Grandma and Grandpa. We left at 9am and Hunter promptly fell asleep for about 45 mintues. Then he played for the next hour and a half. We didn't stop at all. For those that don't know, Hunter hated the car for the first 4 months of his life. He would just scream and scream and never fall asleep. Things are so much better now and I'm so thankful we can go places without all the drama!

We had a great weekend there. We spent Friday with mom's best friend and her grandaughter and great grandson. Here they are with their boys. This about as good as it gets with boys as busy as they are.
Today we went to the doctor for Hunter's 6-month check-up. He's 15 lbs 10oz and 25 1/4 inches long. He's in the 25th percentile for both height and weight. He's doing everything he should be and meeting all the milestones. We can't ask for much more. He got a couple of shots today. I think the shots get harder for me and Heath as he gets older. His newest thing is sqealing. He's definitely found his voice and squeals constantly. I think it might be time for the nursery at church.

6 months

Hunter will be 6 months old tomorrow. I can't believe it. Halfway to a year already. It's amazing how much he's changed and how much he's learned in his 6 months of life. I enjoy him every single day. He is such a good baby. I'm loving staying home with him.

We just started solids. He's not been too interested in cereal so we moved on to bananas which went over much better. Oh, and no sign of teeth yet, despite all the drooling and chewing.
He's also getting much better at sitting. He'll still tip over, but he can sit by himself for quite a while.
We're taking our first road trip, just me and Hunter, on Thursday. We're headed to Jacksonville while Heath goes over to Tampa for a boys weekend. I'll report back on how the drive went.

30 Years

Yesterday was my mom and dad's 30th wedding anniversary. We went up to Jacksonville for the weekend and had a surprise party planned for them. Two of my dad's sisters from Montana were in town as well as my cousin and her son. Heath and I told my parents that we were taking them out to dinner Saturday night for their anniversary. I suggested a place that we rarely go because we tend to forget about it. It's a restaurant that my mom used to work at when I was little. She was fine with that. We walked in and everyone started singing Happy Anniversary, led by Margie of course. They were SO surprised. They really had no idea. It was a really nice evening. Here's to 30 more!

Hunter Ale

Our friend and neighbor, Paul, brews his own beer.
He always gives a name to his latest home brew and
this time Hunter was his inspiration. His very talented wife,
Marcie, made these personalized labels. Underneath Hunter's
picture it says, "Beer so good it will make your mouth water".
How fitting since there's a little bit of drool hanging off of
Hunter's lip. And don't worry, Hunter did not consume any
beer in the taking of these photographs.

Conjunctivitis

Hunter's eye has been oozing green gook and now it's red and puffy. I waited too late to call the pediatrician so we couldn't get in to see her today. She sent us to an After Hours office in fear that it could be pink eye and didn't want it to wait until tomorrow. We got there just as they were opening so it only took 30 minutes. He has a bacterial infection that is probably a result of the cold he just got over. I have to put an eye cream in his eye 3 times a day for the next week.

Hunter's First Boo-Boo

We get to blame this one on Grandma (Powell) - sorry Grandma! Heath and I went out Saturday night and Grandma came over to babysit. Apparently Hunter had a collision with her glasses and it left a couple ugly scratches by his eyebrow. I also came home at 1am to Hunter playing in the living room! I never imagined he'd wake up before 2am so I didn't leave another bottle or instructions for what to do if he did. I was able to feed him and put him right back to sleep so it was fine, but I was pretty surprised to see him awake when I walked in the door.

My First Post

Since I am completely new to this I figured I would start out simple by introducing ourselves.

Dena and I met in 2001, when she moved to Orlando after graduating from the best University in the Nation, FSU. We dated for one and a half years and got married May of 2003. Since then we have been traveling, going to FSU football games and just enjoying each others company. We recently added a new member to the family.

Hunter Heath Powell was Born in September 2006 one day after my 30th Birthday. Wow has he changed our lives. He is the best thing that has happened to us. He has been a joy and headache at times but he puts a smile on our faces on a daily basis.

Well that is the short of it. So long for now.
